With the release of the latest version of Microsoft's flagship operating system, Microsoft® Windows Vista™, many home users feel intimidated or even lost in all the technological terms when passing displays in many high-street stores.

Windows Vista contains hundreds of new features; some of the most significant include an updated graphical user interface (GUI) and visual style named Aero™, improved searching features, new multimedia creation tools such as Windows DVD Maker, and completely redesigned networking, audio, print, and display sub-systems. Vista also aims to increase the level of communication between machines on a home network using peer-to-peer technology, making it easier to share files and digital media between computers and devices. For developers, Vista includes version 3.0 of the .NET Framework, which aims to make it significantly easier for developers to write high-quality applications than with the traditional Windows API. Microsoft's primary stated objective with Windows Vista, however, has been to improve the state of security in the Windows operating system. One common criticism of Windows XP and its predecessors has been its often exploited security vulnerabilities and the fact that it is susceptible to malware, viruses and buffer overflows.
Below we have listed some of the basic requirements for a customer machine to be able to run Windows Vista®, please note that this should serve as guidance only as there will be variations depending on the needs of the customer.
- 1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor.
- 512 MB of system memory.
- 20 GB hard drive with at least 15 GB of available space.
- Support for DirectX 9 graphics and 32 MB of graphics memory.
- DVD-ROM drive.
- Audio Output.
- Internet access (fees may apply).
For those customers looking to upgrade to the Business and Premium the following apply:
- 1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor.
- 1 GB of system memory.
- 40 GB hard drive with at least 15 GB of available space.
- Support for DirectX 9 graphics with:
- WDDM Driver.
- 128 MB of graphics memory (minimum).
- Pixel Shader 2.0 in hardware.
- 32 bits per pixel.
